The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for issues that concern information and communication technologies (ICT). ITU membership reads like a Who's Who of the ICT sector, being unique among United Nations agencies in having both public and private sector membership. So in addition to the 193 Member States, ITU membership includes ICT regulators, many leading academic institutions and some 700 tech companies.
The Mobile and Distributed Systems Laboratory (MDSLab) group conducts advanced ICT research studying parallel and distributed systems. In particular reseach topics include cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), ad-hoc networks, grid computing, middleware, modeling&performance evaluation, multimedia streaming, QoS management in wireless systems, RFID, security, trusted computing, sensor networks, software engineering, etc.
multEE is a Horizon 2020 project that aims to improve the consistency and quality of energy efficiency policy planning and implementation through the introduction of innovative monitoring and verification (M&V) schemes, as well as through the improvement of vertical coordination between different administrative levels.
Roadmaps for Energy (R4E) is an EU funded project under the Horizon 2020 programme that aims to develop a new type of energy strategy through visions and roadmaps for the 8 partner cities, in co-creation with relevant local stakeholders. The project focuses on three areas within the domain of sustainable energy that are closely linked to the municipalities main responsibilities:
Save@Work focusses on overcoming the barriers to energy saving practices in public office buildings and changing the behaviour of public sector employees at work place. A minimum of 9000 employees in at least 180 public office buildings (administrative buildings - municipal/regional or federal state operated) from nine countries will compete in a year-long energy saving contest to achieve the highest energy savings possible compared to the previous year.
In a nutshell, SCAVENGE tackles sustainable design, protocols, architectures and algorithms for next generation 5G cellular networks. The overall purpose is to allow mobile systems and especially their constituting base stations, femto, small-cells, mobile devices and sensors to take advantage of sources harvesting ambient energy (such as renewable sources).
Funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, the mission of the START2ACT project is to support young SMEs and startups to save energy and cut costs at their workplace. To fulfill this mission, we are offering free-of-charge mentoring and training activities in nine European countries:
Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and United Kingdom.
Sustainability for London (SFL) is a not-for-profit group, with a focus on providing practical real-world solutions within the sphere of sustainable ICT. SFL jurisdiction covers sustainable ICT challenges found within, and associated with the Greater London area. SFL remit includes technology as a consumer and technology as an enabler in a reduction of energy consumption and the emission of greenhouse gases.
