How to ecodesign digital services? Focus on the GreenConcept project

The demand for more efficient products to reduce energy and resource consumption is growing. The fast development of digital services and the increasing quantity of data is having a significant impact on our environment, such as GHG emissions, energy consumption, electronic waste production, and resources depletion....
It is imperative to search for new design solutions that are environmentally friendly and result in a reduction in the consumption of materials and energy. Ecodesign is an approach to designing products with the special consideration of environmental impacts associated with all stages of product’s LCA (Life-cycle assessment). However, the questions are as follows; how to assess the environmental impact of a digital service with a LCA methodology? How to build an improvement action plan of impact reduction? How companies can handle together digital transformation and environmental performance?
This ICTFOOTPRINT.eu webinar gathered together five passionate experts, who explained how to incorporate eco-design into ICT services. The GreenConcept project was presented, which helps small & medium companies to implement the principles of ecodesign into the development of their digital services (web site, social network, IOT appliance, platform...).
Caroline Vateau (Senior Consultant at NEUTREO and General Secretary of Alliance Green IT) and Damien Prunel (Ecodesign Consultant at Bureau Veritas) CODDE explained the method of how to ecodesign a digital service based on the white paper from Alliance Green IT.
Christophe Fernique, in charge of the environmental issues at the Occitanie Chamber of Commerce, explained in detail the GreenConcept project from the origin to the first results.
Sebastien Bernis (CEO of BSWEB - webmarketing appliance) and Valentin Girard (Specialist in embedded systems and RFID technology at ELA INNOVATION - IOT based appliance), shared their experiences on the GreenConcept project.
The webinar is moderated by Silvana Muscella (Project Coordinator of ICTFOOTPRINT.eu and CEO of Trust-IT Services) who has a broad experience in stimulating topics in the ICT sector. In recent years, her drive has been in motivating her team to turn their expertise into developing useful ICT tools and services for smaller companies, alike Trust-IT, in the ICT sectors for energy efficiency, cloud procurement and cybersecurity, and providing online tools for making cloud computing easier, particularly for novices.

Caroline Vateau - NEUTREO & Alliance Green IT Graduated as engineer, Caroline is Consultant at Neutreo. She assist companies from startup to big companies in environmental strategy implementation (analysis, roadmap, action plan, KPI, training). She’s specialized in Sustainable ICT issues. Damien Prunel - Bureau Veritas Graduated from the Grenoble INP University (master’s degree in industrial engineering specialized in product design), Damien PRUNEL joined Bureau Veritas in 2010 as an ecodesign consultant. Over the past eight years at Bureau Veritas, Damien had the opportunity to develop expertise in LCA and ecodesign for electrical and electronic products : environmental labelling of electronic devices, LCA studies of cloud computing service, ecodesign of ICT services for SMEs, etc. Christophe Fernique - CCI Herault Christophe FERNIQUE is an Environmental Project Manager at the CCI Herault and supports companies in their environmental initiatives (environmental labeling, energy management, circular economy ...) He animates the regional project #GreenConcept carried by the CCI Occitanie with the support of the ADEME and the Occitanie Region. This project’s target is to help 30 small & medium company to implement the principles of ecodesign into the development of their digital services. Sebastien Bernis - BSWEB Sebastien Bernis is the founding director of BSWEB, a webmarketing agency specializing in the design of innovative competitive intelligence software. Its solutions provide companies with real-time market research that reduces marketing spend and makes fast, effective strategic decisions. As a diving instructor and advocate for a generalized organic diet, his challenge is to link business and corporate social responsibility. The balance has partly been revealed in the path of software ecodesign. Its first SaaS software solution Pricecomparator.pro already benefits from improvements from pioneer GreenConcept project. Proof that Big Data performance and sustainable development are compatible, provided we give ourselves the means. Valentin Girard - ELA INNOVATION Valentin is specialized in embedded system (electronic, programming) and RFID technology. Since 2 years he’s involved into different projects at ELA Innovation. |
