Decreasing ICT energy consumption – the power of data centres and people’s will - ICTFOOTPRINT.eu 9th webinar
Today, modern society faces a big challenge. Due to the fast-paced development of the Internet of Things, 5G networks, cloud computing… a tsunami of data is fast approaching. In 10 years time, billions of IT internet-connected devices will produce 3.5% of global emissions within 10 years and 14% by 2040 (Source: Climate Home News). Plus, in 2025, it is expected that the communications industry will be responsible for 20% of all the world’s electricity (Source: The Guardian). In the same year, it is also expected that data centres will consume 1/5 of Earth’s power, becoming the largest global energy users (Source: Data Economy). Data Centres have the fastest growing carbon footprint in the entire ICT sector, mainly due to technological advances such as the cloud computing.
How can we start turning this around and reduce carbon emissions and inefficient energy consumption in ICT? Making small changes in the workplace can really make a difference in terms of boosting sustainable ICT and reducing energy costs.
Regarding data centres, it is imperative that innovative technologies are developed to decrease the amount of energy they consume and turn them into a more environmentally-friendly technology.
ICTFOOTPRINT.eu is organising a webinar on 18th July, 11:00 AM CEST to showcase a new technology for green data centres and demonstrate the power of people in decreasing ICT energy consumption in SMEs
Who are the speakers?
Maikel Bouricius, (Marketing Manager at Asperitas) will present Immersed Computing®, a new technology developed by Asperitas that makes the future possible today. It ensures the highest possible efficiency in availability, energy reduction and reuse, while increasing capacity. Greatly improving density, while saving energy at the same time.
Daniel Frohnmaier (Project Manager at START2ACT & Geonardo Environmental Technologies), will demonstrate the role of people at SMEs and start-ups in bringing a long-lasting decrease in energy consumption of ICT and at the workplaces of businesses, while increasing the company’s competitiveness on the market.
The webinar is moderated by Silvana Muscella (Project Coordinator of ICTFOOTPRINT.eu and CEO of Trust-IT Services) who has a broad experience in stimulating topics in the ICT sector. In recent years, her drive has been in motivating her team to turn their expertise into developing useful ICT tools and services for smaller companies, alike Trust-IT, in the ICT sectors for energy efficiency, cloud procurement and cybersecurity, and providing online tools for making cloud computing easier, particularly for novices.
