Purpose & Scope of the workshop

Raise the attention to European stakeholders on energy efficiency in ICT & bring on board some actors who are striving to reduce the amount of carbon generated by the ICT sector, with a focus given on various innovative tools & services to be adopted. The networking session aims to brainstorm and explore ideas, between industry, researchers and public administrators, on what are the priorities and opportunities in Green ICT market.

All individuals, from cross disciplinary fields, who rely on ICT technologies to provide their services, shall embrace low carbon ICT. But why Green ICT? Green ICT is important for European ICT sector, since the Green IT market is expected to reach $7.12 billion by 2020 growing at the CAGR of 5.84% over the forecast period (Source: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170907005713/en/Global-Green-Services-Market-Reach-7-Billion). The ICT community needs to gear up on ‘Green ICT’ solutions that save energy, reduce resource consumption, and cut down harmful emissions.

This session is part of the pan-European initiative ICTFOOTPRINT.eu, funded under Horizon 2020 with the specific purpose of helping European businesses and organisations to assess their ICT carbon footprint in an easy way, and fostering the adoption of energy efficiency solutions in ICT.
