ITU-T methodologies are adopted for the calculation of carbon footprint within the ICT sectors.

The types of ITU methodologies are:
- ITU-T Rec L.1410: Methodology for the invironmental impact assessment of information and communication technologies (ICT) goods, networks and services
- ITU-T L.1420: Methodology for energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions impact assessment of information and communication technologies in organisations

- ITU-T L.1440: Methodology for environmental impact assessment of information and communication technologies at city level

The ITU-T methodologies can be employed for the greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption calculations. They are not specific for a particular organisations type or product, thus, they are applicable at different levels, from organisations, projects, city levels to goods, networks and services.
